How To Wear Longline Blazer

Longline blazers are a flattering silhouette, but how are they worn?

Can people under five foot pull them off? (I'm in this boat, if ya didn't know)

Balloon Sleeves For The Petite

Can we collectively agree that the name 'balloon sleeve' sounds a bit unattractive? Like its cousin the pussy bow, it presents itself in such a way that leaves you wondering 'why would I want to wear that?'

There are many things I can say about many articles of clothing, but lately I’ve laid my affections on that of the wide leg pant.

TWO ESSENTIAL SUMMER PIECES

Crop Top & Denim Skirt

I found this quintessential crop + denim skirt pairing in a forever 21 recently, (how am I not a walking ad at this point) & I knew I had to have it. It screamed summer, cherry cola, and vintage vibes and it was love at first sight.

THE GINGHAM ROMPER

Monday, July 10, 2017

Oh HEY THERE, babes!

I recently added this boohoo romper to my wardrobe & brought it out for my cousin's baby shower. It was A HIT with me & now I want to wear it pretty much every day.

Every detail is perfection, from the flutter shoulder to the waist to the print. What's not to love about gingham? First made chic on picnic outings, it's now chic on street wear & I've been a fan of it for too long to not actually OWN a print, ya know?

I chose this specific romper because of the petite cut and straight silhouette, the defined waist breaking things up a bit.

For me, adding a long necklace or choker + necklace combo is the best accessory to sauce the look up a  tiny notch.

I've listed some more romper picks down below!

Are you a gingham fan? Let's chat about it!

WEEKEND WEAR

Friday, June 30, 2017

photography by ashley kay

Y'ALL. I officially have an addiction to wearing this dress.

It might be the most versatile little number I've ever owned (ok maybe that's an exaggeration. But pretty close) because it can be worn in SO MANY different ways, sometimes completely changing the look.

Take a leather vest. Paired with one, the simple t-shirt dress becomes a bit feisty & sassy.

BAM.

Okay, I'm off on a little road trip for my super adorable cousin's baby shower. What are you up to this weekend? & while we're at it, what's your favorite way to wear a t-shirt dress?

GEM OF A DRESS

Monday, June 12, 2017

Thrifting can be such a hit or miss: sometimes you come out with ten different treasures & sometimes it's only one. But it's that one that is sometimes such a beauty it's worth the hunt. (they always are though, yes?)

All the Loft pieces I've owned have come from thrift or resale shops & every one has been a gem. Perfect fit, comfy & chic, & this little number is no different. The top part is so soft and comfy it feels like you're in your favorite tee, & then the skirt part adds a flirty & dressier feel.

I couldn't find this exact piece online, (I have no idea how many seasons ago it's from) but I did find a couple of similar ones, both from Loft as well!

A HACK FOR SHORT DRESSES.

Monday, June 5, 2017

This dress has had a bit of an identity crisis, first with me being confused on if the print was actually pineapples or not. (then, after looking at the online description I realized that oh yes, it does indeed SAY pineapple in the title.. haha.. ha)

Then me realizing that the petite hem line was a bit too petite... what's a girl to do?

Throw a fancy skirt over, of course! I've talked about my love of this blush beauty before, making me feel all kinds of carrie bradshaw. It dresses up the dress (ha) just right!

What's your favorite hack for super short dresses?

CULOTTES & FLORAL

Friday, May 26, 2017

I've touched on my semi-newfound love of jumpsuits before, & I'm always on the hunt for strong, petite fitting ones.

I love this culotte piece in particular, with its fitted waist & straight cut neckline. The floral pattern makes for a strong statement on its own, but I like adding a touch more of personality with something like a belt and a fun necklace. Not too much, but the belt draws even more attention to the waist, & who doesn't want that?

I originally bought this for easter, but it's quickly become a piece in high rotation. OF COURSE it's sold out at the moment, but I've linked some similar ones down below for ya!

VELVET + CULOTTES

Monday, March 6, 2017

The sun decided to shine bright & the wind blew hard the day I shot this look, & this is what came out of it. Used to I would've scrapped the post altogether, waited for a better weather day & put on the outfit all over again, but I've decided to embrace the unexpected.

Not unexpected is the velvet crush happening lately, evident in the wardrobe addition of this off the shoulder top. Soft & wearable, I'm feeling the velvet vibes.

Also, petites listen up: these culottes give you LEG. I love a good metallic, too. Pair these with some velvet for a spring ready look worthy of the runway. (ok, maybe not quite. but close, yes?)

PETITE STYLE | WIDE LEG PANTS

Monday, February 20, 2017

Y'ALL. These wide leg babes made their instagram debut a couple weeks ago & they're still going strong. As a petite I've always been hesitant of wide leg & palazzo pants- none ever fit me right. But as you can see,

IT IS POSSIBLE.

Look for a crop cut if possible so it hits at a perfect length. Right at the top of the ankle is a good cutoff point to keep from looking like you're being swallowed. High waist gives the illusion of more leg & flats can be swapped for heels for even more height.

I love the look of a cropped or tucked in shirt with these pants; it gives things a cohesive vibe.

Yes, Petites Can Wear Blanket Scarves!

Wednesday, January 25, 2017

Scarves are the ultimate A/W accessory. Blanket scarves are an added bonus because they're so cosy & big enough that you can literally use them as a blanket, (has anyone tried this out? please share details) but if you're 5'4" or under, the large scarves can feel like they're swallowing you.

I began to accept this fate, but then I fought against it. I experimented, & I realized that like with most things, it's all in the way you wear it.

The key is to make it look as least bulky as possible, while still maintaining a "blanket scarf" feel. The best way I've found to achieve this:

Fold the scarf into a triangle, then tie two ends together for a makeshift infinity scarf. Wrap the scarf around your neck (I do it twice) & kind of tuck the knot into the rest of the scarf.

IT'S THAT SIMPLE.

When the triangle part of the scarf is in the front, it gives the illusion of elongation, which never hurt a fly.

BOOM.
