Fashion Documentaries You Should Be Watching

Monday, June 10, 2019

I'm a huge documentary girl, and true crimes and fashion (of course) are my two main picks. I think immersing yourself into fashion as much as you can is extremely helpful when trying to develop & keep a personal style. It's also good to know what's trending, and sometimes you just wanna watch a good docu!

So here are the four documentaries you MUST watch, hand-picked:

TOP FIVE SHOWS TO BINGE RIGHT NOW

Friday, September 1, 2017

It's September & your fave shows are coming BACK! I'm ready. Are you ready? To gear up (because we're all adults here & if spending an entire day in bed with a show is what we wanna do, who's gonna stop us?) I've listed my top five shows you should binge RIGHT NOW.

I coincidentally made a post like this nearly one year ago to the DAY & I'm proud to say I haven't double listed any shows. (obviously these first ones are good as well, & you may as well add them to your queue)

Top Five Shows To Binge RIGHT NOW!

1// The Bold Type
I've been talking about this show in maybe every post lately? It's just SO GOOD. & it desperately needs a season two! If you were a fan of the bond the PLL girls had, but hated the plot holes & pretty much everything else about the show, (maybe I'm just talking about me here) you'll love TBT. All the girl power & female friendship without the problematic things! Who knew a show like that could exist? You can watch it on the freeform app now!

2// This Is Us
Last year this is us was the show EVERYONE was talking about, and for good reason. If you're still on the fringe about it, I promise it's worth it. It's worth the tears & the feels. The entire cast (including the adorable kids who play Past Big Three) is incredible. Nobody outshines the other, they all just shine in their own way that makes the story beautiful. That's what an ensemble show should be.

Season two premieres the 26th, & in the meantime you can binge season one right here!

3// The Keepers (docu series)
I'm fascinated by true crime documentaries and The Keepers, about the murder of Sister Cathy Cesnik, is so interesting and kind of disturbing when you find out just how much the Catholic church covered up. Definitely worth the binge! You can watch on netflix.

4// Sex & The City
Maybe this shouldn't be on the list, since I'm only about three episodes in, but it's a quintessential show. I started it after my friend became appalled that I hadn't seen it & I'm so into fashion. (Carrie did have the looks!) Don't we all strive to be a modern day Carrie Bradshaw? You can watch free if you have amazon prime!

5// Jessica Jones
The past year or so I've gotten a bit more into Marvel, & while I haven't seen every show/ movie, Jessica Jones is a must-see. She's so badass & sarcastic & it's just a great show. WHERE IS SEASON TWO?? We need it. You can watch on netflix now!

What shows are you binging?

WHAT I'VE LEARNED FROM WATCHING THE BOLD TYPE

Monday, August 21, 2017

It was a Friday night, and I was drowning my Friday night sorrows in a tub of icing. (Don't wrinkle your face in disgust, it's a delicious, incredibly unhealthy thing of magic) I was still in a post pretty little liars haze (although thanks to netflix it will never truly be over) & in desperate need of strong female friendships in media, and so it was then that I decided to delve into The Bold Type, a show everyone's been talking about.

It's loosely based on the life of Cosmopolitan's editor in chief, and follows three best friends who work for a women's magazine. It's only seven episodes into the season, but in those seven episodes I have laughed out loud, cried into the tub of icing, and become inspired and empowered to be more bold in the way I carry myself and my life.

Maybe that sounds dramatic, like this show is the be all end all of feminism. It isn't obviously, as media is created by humans, therefore it's going to be flawed. But we should definitely celebrate when it's diverse and beautiful, because it's a form of art. Art imitates life.

This is an age of fighting for diversity, women's rights, and normalizing the fact that we can be interested in fashion and relationships and beauty while also being interested in politics and art and world issues- and doing it in heels. We need media that celebrates and supports that, because this is our life.

I for one want to leave a mark in this life, as I have a feeling you do as well. You can't do that if you play it safe, something I have to remind my anxiety-ridden brain of constantly. We as humans are deeply afraid of failure, of not being good enough and that's a trope we have to get rid of.

Romanticize failure. It's going to happen, but what matters is what we do with it, how we grow. That, to me, is how we're bold.

PRETTY LITTLE LIARS: FINAL THOUGHTS

Wednesday, June 28, 2017

{via}
If you're an OG WDAC reader, you'll remember my old PLL recaps every week that I eventually stopped because the show got so bad I didn't know why I still watched & had no motivation to write about it.

YIKES.

But, since last night was the LAST EVER episode, I thought I'd sit down & have an old-school chat about it. Because, let's face it, it's been in my life for seven years, no matter how bad it got, no matter how much it was basically that ex that told you over & over they've changed so you believe them & every time it's no different.

So, thoughts: (PS if you haven't watched yet DO NOT GO ANY FURTHER)

The final episode, 'Til Death Do Us PArt,' was two hours long, the pace more like a movie, to tie up seven years worth of plot holes loose ends, that didn't all get tied up in my opinion BUT.

It's all one year in the future, so I guess AD stopped messing with them for that year & then started again? All that time mona was still playing the game, trying to figure out who AD was. Meanwhile, spencer was acting V weird, which brings us to the twin theory, that I was on board with. There were certain times spencer didn't seem like herself, like all those times she blatantly seduced toby.

TURNS OUT I actually got a theory right: spencer had a twin she never knew about. (& apparently her dad didn't either)

Alex Drake. A.D. HEY OH. Apparently she wanted vengeance for CC's death, as they were sisters. BUT something that doesn't make sense.. why would she let mona join the team if she wanted vengeance & she knew mona killed her? A question unanswered. So, anyway, alex had been manipulating the girls, even pretending to be spencer sometimes. (& the girls & toby didn't notice?? AT ALL??)

It wasn't the best reveal, but it wasn't horrible, but I do wish melissa had something to do with it. Like, she was always SO sketch. & that thing about the NAT club in the earlier seasons? What happened with that?

ALSO, was bethany young really irrelevant this whole time? We spend like an entire season trying to figure out who killed her & then she doesn't even matter. MAKES SENSE.

All in all, the girls got their happy endings & mona is out there doing her thing, holding mary & alex captive & LIVING HER BEST LIFE.

Also, can we take a moment for troian bellisario? THAT TALENT.

Okay, let's chat. What did you think about it? Are you sad to let it go?

GILMORE REVIVAL THOUGHTS

Wednesday, November 30, 2016

Hi, hello! Now that Thanksgiving leftovers have been eaten, black Friday has been taken on & Gilmore Girls has been binged, it's time to talk. (WARNING, if you haven't watched, turn back now!!! I won't hate you!!! GO!! WATCH!!)

Okay. If you're still reading, here we go. How did things match up with my revival hopes? Well...

// Rory & Paris were still badass friends, as was Lane. But as usual, I feel Lane's character deserved better. We barely got to see her interact outside of the band & Zack & I think they could've done so much more with her. Paris is still everything. my soul sister, if you will.

// Dean did NOT get Regina George'd, but I actually didn't mind his two minute screentime. (maybe because it was only two minutes tops?) It's good to see he's got a family. Let's just hope there's no cheating-on-wife-with-ex happening again.

// Logan is still an asshole. When I said I genuinely wanted to see how Rory gets on with each of her exes I didn't know what I was in for. Was it not enough for her to lose her virginity to her married ex? Now she's hooking up with her ENGAGED ex? Obviously it's not only Rory I'm upset with, it takes two, people!

// I did not cry when they mentioned Richard the first few times. I was incredibly sad but I thought I could get through it. & then... Lorelai's story about him at the mall happened. WHY??

// LUKEANDLORELAI LUKEANDLORELAI LUKEANDLORELAI

// Was there a point to April being there?

// JESS. Once again, he knew Rory better than anyone. Don't even get me started.

// I called the pregnancy from a mile away. I wasn't sure, but I had my suspicions even before anything aired. I still don't know how to feel about it.

// Overall it had the Stars Hollow magic written all over it. Of course it wasn't perfect & there are a lot of questions to still be answered (like who sent that letter Emily accused Lorelai of? What even was that musical? WHAT PURPOSE DID APRIL SERVE? IS THE BABY ACTUALLY LOGAN'S?? (don't we get enough of this exhaust from PLL?) it was exactly what Gilmore Girls should be.

Witty, fast-paced, & home.

YOUR TURN. Spill what you thought!! Do you think they should turn this into a regular show? (because we need to know what happens next. We just do. )

All things considered, the season six finale was pretty good. Like better than the rest of the season.... obviously my standards have become critically low.

Let's bullet point & review, shall we? SPOILERS:

  • In a completely unexpected  turn of events, Ezra & Aria and Hanna & Caleb happened again. Listen, I love #haleb, but not when they're both already with other people.

  • There were theories of a twin story line happening, which looks like the rumors are true. Mrs. DiLaurentis had a twin sister who gave birth while in Radley. That baby was.... Charles. You guessed it. Charles was adopted into Ali's family where she eventually transitioned into Charlotte. SO Cece was actually Ali & Jason's cousin, not sister. Keepin up?

  • Oh yeah, to add to the twist? Rollins is in cahoots with Mary (the twin sister) though I'm not quite sure what their endgame is. To have control of that Carissimi Group? Revenge for Charlotte's death, maybe. (oh yeah, cause Rollins was in love with her. Makes total sense, right?) In any case, I'm not surprised about him. He had no backstory and came out of left field. Villain was the only explanation.

  • Alright, am I the only one not concerned about Hanna? It's obvious she's still gonna be alive. That's what this show does, makes you think people are dead when they're really not. Also, remember that scene of the girls in Alison's classroom when she's writing on the blackboard? That hasn't happened yet, and Hanna was there. SO.

What do you think? Were you impressed with the finale/ season as a whole? Do tell.

This week's PLL saw more totally threatening A threats (for real. Horror movie material with this one, right?) and random Sara Harvey pop-ups.

+ First, I feel like we should talk about the notes from A that Aria found in her parents' wedding photos. How much sense does it make that none of the guests would've seen the cards on the table and freaked? A is ballsy, I'll give 'em that.

+ Why does Sara Harvey seem to show up at every corner? And why do the girls never just call her by her first name? Do they think we'll forget? So many questions.

+ From the looks of the failed bridal shower game, Hanna hasn't really shared much about Jordan with the girls. Or anyone, really. Hmmm.....

+ I've always had such mixed feelings on the whole Aria/ Ezra thing. I mean, I used to think "eh okay" because he didn't know her age when they met. But then (way) back when it was revealed he met her on purpose for book research...... yikes. ANYWAY.

Enough about my thoughts.... tell me yours! OH and how do you feel about this whole Caleb/ Toby rift?? Just let bros be bros, man.

If I could sum up last night's episode in a few words they would be: Awkward. Pretty outfits. Weddings. Confusion. I spent more time than I'd like to admit wondering "what can I talk about?" because it all seemed so anti-climatic.

Well, besides Ali & Rollins (does anyone even know his first name?) wanting Aria to marry them, like now. But we'll get to that. Some other key points:

+ The girls figured out there was more than one person after them. Well duh. Because there always is. And I guarantee Melissa is involved somehow. She seemed so sketchy with the suitcase thing, although she always seems sketchy and then it turns out to be nothing. Or that's what we think.....

+ It looks like Aria is Ezra's new official ghostwriter.... as if that relationship isn't messed up enough.

+ Spencer & her mom's "Do you want some coffee?" "I already had a pot" exchange is me. (Yes this is an important point, okay?

+ Aaaad Alison & Rollins are engaged. I called that part, but I didn't call them running to Aria's parents' house asking her to marry them. (Oh yeah, Aria got officiated so she could re-marry her parents. Totally casual.)

+ The last few episodes I feel like the style has made more of an impression on me than the storyline (yikes).... & if you don't have this blog bookmarked do it asap. Cue me searching every outfit from the past six years....

Okay, your turn. Thoughts? Concerns? etc?? Spill!

Previously On Pretty Little Liars... Where Somebody Waits For Me

Wednesday, February 17, 2016

This week focused heavily on the girls' personal lives, with a touch of new mysterious A threats and Mona cryptic-ness.

THOUGHTS:

+ Why did Dective Tanner have to show up again? I've always wanted to punch her in the face. (Getting right into violence, nice Kaeleen)

+ In new A crimes, Emily's eggs were destroyed (along with thirty other women's because A is ruthless) and Jordan was threatened with a mysterious use of eggs & bacon? I'm not even sure what the threat was. But in any case, Hanna got the message loud and clear.

+ I'm confused as to if Spencer's mom is even sick at all? There was something mentioned of breast scans, so does that mean she has breast cancer?

+ I called Alison & Rollins ending up together way back... chalk it up to the fact that the previews for this half of the season showed her writing MRS. ROLLINS on the chalkboard. Totally not a give away or anything. I wonder when the big proposal will be?

+ Once again Mona's cryptic clues give no answers and leave more questions. Does anyone get her current motives? Did she let us know because I really can't tell.

+ So now we've got Melissa as the next one on the "who killed Charlotte??" list. Who knows if her suitcase handle is really the murder weapon, but I still think she is connected to everything somehow. I'm anxious to know your thoughts on it!

+ On another note, how chic was Aria's two piece + jacket combo? Obsessed.

YOUR TURN: Lemme know your thoughts/ new theories! Maybe we can help each other make sense of it all. (a girl can dream)

The premise this week was simple: Sparia back in action looking for answers, this time in reference to Sara. Did they get any? No. Only creepiness.

Other very constructed thoughts:

+ I'm glad at least Aria's parents are getting back together. That's one couple down... also I guess that reveal means Byron isn't as shady as he's made out to be. Or maybe we're just being lied to, because when aren't we?

+ Whaaat is Mona up to? The whole phone thing was never really resolved. But I'm 98% sure she's working with Sara. Or 97%. 89.5%, at least.

+ There is one of three possibilities for what happened to Emily from her hospital bed. One, she really was hallucinating, two Alison just somehow missed Sara coming into the room, OR she's covering for her. I really don't know which is more plausible at this point.

+ Sara in general just makes me really uneasy. Why would she want to stay in the room that was Charlotte's when she was in Radley? I don't get any of her motives.

Alright, your turn. Got any good theories? Thoughts/ objections? Throw em out there.

And here we are, another Wednesday, another chat. This was another iffy episode in which we didn't really learn much, except for the fact there's another A situation.

But we kinda already knew that, didn't we?

+ Spencer & Caleb used to be my brotp and then they had to pull out the romance card. Why couldn't they have just stayed friends?

+ And why did we never find out if Toby proposed to Yvonne or not? I'm guessing he didn't, and I'm also guessing why.......

+ Where. Is. Ali.

+ I always knew Aria's dad was shady. So who's he working with? Sara? Ezra? No one? WHAT'S GOING ON

+ I love that Spencer & Yvonne don't have the whole ex girlfriend vs new girlfriend thing going on and instead take on politics together. I'd like to see more of that, please.

Tell me, are things ever going to get interesting again?? We'll see.

OKAAAY let's get right into the third episode of season six, AKA I've Seen This Before But For Some Reason I Can't Turn It Off:

+ Looks like Sara's creepy level went up to a ten in the first minute of the episode. Is that a record or something?

+ Speaking of Sara.... we were finally reminded of what happened to her "that night": Electrocution. I say reminded because I sure couldn't remember. "Something happened that nobody knows about." Yeah, no kidding. Thanks, handy flashback.

+ We learned that Emily's not sick, she's just broke and donating her eggs. Casual. #youdoyou

+ I hate to say it but I see myself becoming somewhat open to the idea of Spencer & Caleb. But something about it still feels.... off. I think him with anybody other than Hanna will always feel kind of wrong. Sigh.

+ Looks like the dolls are back and next week we have another bin situation. If you saw my snapchat (@kaemichelle) you know my new favorite joke: We should recycle more.... LET'S START WITH ALL THESE STORY LINES!

...... thanks, I'll be here all week.

This week's PLL began the questions of "who killed Charlotte?" (I thought maybe the title meant we would get a peek into Charlotte's world leading up to her murder but...)

Anyway, jumping right into my thousand thoughts:

+ We met Aria's Liam and Hanna's Jordan and while Liam's not bad, I'm not feeling Jordan yet. Like, how blah can you be? And the cute accent can't even make up for it.

+ Speaking of loves, I still don't know what's going on with Caleb & Spencer. Did they have a thing? They look like they had a thing.

+ "No writer is ever in a good place, Aria." TRUTH.

+ WHAT is wrong with Emily? What is she getting treatments for? I thought it would be revealed by the end of the episode but once again I was left with more questions.

+ Last question: Why is Sara Harvey relevant? What's she planning.....

OKAY tell me your thoughts/ opinions/ rants.... go!

Previously on Pretty Little Liars... Of Late I Think Of Rosewood

Wednesday, January 13, 2016

FINALLY PLL is back... I've missed doing these little recaps.

The premiere of the second half of season six brought the start of  "five years forward," and with it came changes and five years of an A-free life. Not for long....

+ The girls all come back to Rosewood to essentially lie for Alison, I guess for old time's sake? So much has changed, but it's still the same.

+ I guess Spencer's pill issues have been passed down to Emily. I hate that they killed her dad!

+ It's clear that they're going to make Spencer and Caleb a thing, something so out of character for them both. I'm not on board with it at all.

+ I could've called Charlotte being murdered (right after she's let out of the sanitarium- talk about irony) and from the looks of the previews for next week it looks like we're right back to the whole "she's the killer no he is no she is" plot.

+ Overall it was a good opener to the new chapter; for once it's not as predictable as before.

Now it's your turn! SPILL thoughts/ new theories.

Previously on Pretty Little Liars... Game Over, Charles

Wednesday, August 12, 2015

{via}
Last night was the night. After six seasons and five years of our lives that we'll never get back, the identity of A/ Charles was revealed.

*SPOILERS AHEAD

I once read a theory that CeCe Drake was actually Charles, making her transgender, and I didn't really pay much attention because to me it was just another theory in the book that wouldn't pan out. Who knew I was wrong?

Eve though some of the reasoning of her being A still doesn't make much sense to me, I should've put the pieces together. Those identical dresses Mrs. D. had. All the creepy twin stuff. The resemblance between Ali and CeCe.

CeCe stole the game from Mona in Radley. Like I said, I'm still confused on the reasoning. She said she hated the way the girls were relieved when they thought Ali was dead, so that entailed tormenting them and ruining their lives?

I knew Sara Harvey was involved somehow, but making her Red Coat and Black Widow seems a bit forced. What were her motives? How did CeCe convince her to help her? Sara didn't even know the girls in the beginning. I don't understand how that was supposed to work.

They said all the questions would be answered in this episode, but there are still so many. Why were Melissa and Wren always so shady? Who killed Mrs. DiLaurentis? Are the moms still stuck in the basement??

I think what I'm having the most feelings over is the time jump. That little "preview" we got was interesting, AND the theory wheels are already turning in my mind. Everyone is wondering who Spencer was talking about when she was like "he's here," and when Ali was writing her name on the blackboard (look who became a teacher?) she wrote a different last name. She's married. I'm thinking the "he" is her husband.

What are your theories on this? Tell me what you thought of the big reveal. Tell me anything really. We're in a drought til winter.

Last night's episode was definitely one of the best of the season so far, even though we still didn't get any real answers. #typical

+ The first question on my mind was where Mona was. Was she not planning on going to prom in the first place? Is she even around? I don't know. I don't understand. This is the real mystery, obviously.

+ I like how this episode was kind of setting things up for the time jump and Haleb in New York is everything I've ever wanted.

+ Honestly I think the biggest thing we learned is that Clark is in fact not working for Charles, but an undercover cop. I honestly didn't see that one coming. It still poses the question: Just how did he get a gun into a school prom?

+ By the way the episode ended, I'm thinking the finale will start by showing Charles' face. When Ali saw him she knew who it was right away and that kind of terrifies me. It could be anybody.

+ The highlight of everything was by far the moms bonding and basically being the Liars in twenty years.
http://withdignityandcoffee.tumblr.com/post/125888232339/thefaketeam-what-if-for-the-next-season-and-a

I'm honestly all out of ideas. I don't know who or what I'm expecting next week because I've just given up on trying to figure it out.

But I still try, because that makes sense.....

What about you? Spill your thoughts!

We're getting closer to the season finale aka the Charles reveal and I'm so ready. I'm ready to be done with all the games and all the guessing and confusion. Of course, I'm sure there'll just be new confusion.

Anyway, let's talk about last night.

+ Hanna is having no sympathy for Charles and I don't blame her. I feel like out of all the girls she's the one most over all the crap. She's long finished playing A's games and she makes sure they all know it. I like that.

+ Is it just me or was Aria really sketchy about her prom dress? She was super quick to make sure Emily didn't get a peek of it and the "I want it to be a surprise" excuse seemed a little... off. All I could think about was the whole Black Swan thing....

+ I'm gonna need more Spanna scenes, asap. I love the whole dynamic of Hanna being sarcastic and done with everything and Spencer talking her down.

+ Okay so let's talk about this Rhys (totally weird way to spell Reese, btw) Matthews guy. Why is he a Jason doppelganger? Why is his whole company so sketch? I think he's my biggest question, because it's obvious that he's connected somehow. But how? I don't necessarily think he's Charles, but the chances of him being a DiLaurentis are pretty high.

+ Ms. Montgomery going all Mama Bear on Tanner is everything.

+ After everything, I really do believe Alison is sincere. In a way I don't understand how she could sympathize with Charles, but at the same time that was her brother. He's done unspeakable things, but it was her brother and she never got to know him. So I think she needs to mourn that loss and what could've been.

Alright, so what did you think of this episode? Tell me theories!

So, last night's episode was all about another "almost exposure" of Charles for the girls. Other than that, not too much went on, but of course I've still got some thoughts:

+ I'm glad we got to see some Mona/ Mike interaction this episode. Honestly I was starting to think they were just gonna ignore their storyline.

+ Oh, so you mean taking microchips out of each other's necks isn't normal friend bonding time?

+ Honestly some of the only real action we got was Toby eating Spencer's gummies. Not that it wasn't worth it.

+ The first few episodes of the season were SO.GOOD. and it's just gone downhill from there. Whyyyy.

Tell me your thoughts!

To be honest this was probably one of the more "eh" episodes of the season so far. There weren't many answers given (although when are there ever) and it just seemed a bit anticlimactic for me.

+ However, Mona did pretty much confirm that Charles is indeed alive, but that had already been a theory and I'm beginning to think more and more that Charles is indeed A.

+ If I found out I had a chip in my neck I would freak. Like how insane can you be to chip someone.

+ The whole Emily/ Sara dynamic seems forced somehow, as does a lot of Emily's relationships. I miss Maya.

+ I'm assuming Alison's dad freaked out after he got that card from "Charles" and that's why he dug up his grave?

And that's all I got.... tell me your thoughts!

Okay so let's talk last night's episode:

Right off the bat we've got Spencer in a scene that looks like it came out of The Ring. (I've never even seen that movie but that girl reminded me of The Ring girl. Creepy.) Now it's killing me trying to figure out who she was.

Sara is still sketchy to me. Maybe she's perfectly harmless but I'm just not sold. She always seems so... something. I don't know.

I used to think A was a girl but in all the closeups of hands we've gotten, they've seemed like a man's. But now the girl's are pretty convinced there was a bust in the photo. But why haven't we seen one before?

The realization that Lesli Stone was once in Radley makes a lot of sense and it probably is how she and Mona met. I don't know if she knew Charles though. That whole storyline will be interesting....

I'm not a fan of the whole Ali/ Lorenzo thing.... I'm not sure why so many of the girls have/ have had relationships with much older people. I know they're about to graduate but they're still in high school.

I feel for Spencer so much.

As much as I doubt Lesli is A, something is definitely up between her and Mona. That sketchy phone call and the "I asked you to do one thing." Why didn't Lesli want the girls to know she had been in Radley?

PS. I feel like Hanna's crop top + skirt look needs some appreciation.

{via}

What are your theories/ concerns/ feelings?

PPS. No episode next week..... why.
