The Five Spring Trends I've Got My Eye On

SPRING IS ALMOST HERE!

Whilst I love autumn/winter fashion, I think spring/ summer is my top favorite. There's something about when the weather gets warm that makes fashion seem more warm.

The Four Summers Trends To Know About

Monday, June 3, 2019

I covered spring trends at the beginning of the season, so I thought it was only appropriate to let you in on some summer trends. Remember- when working with trends pick a couple that speak to you and incorporate them into your style.

Denim Jacket

The embroidery trend is one I haven't been that much into. I don't know about you, but spotting a cute jacket or pair of shorts, only to discover it's covered in rainbows or floral embroidery or whatever they might decide to throw on there really makes me wanna yell WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO US??

TRENDING: THE NEWSBOY

Trending | The Newsboy

Bakers boy, the newsboy, the Hilary Duff. A hat so great it needed many names.

The last time the newsboy was super in, it was circa 2003, Hilary was the disney queen & brought those babies to life. (according to me) I, wanting to be just like her obviously, tried to pull the look off. Unfortunately, my prepubescent head was even smaller than my adult head, & I looked like an alien. The trend died. I forgot about it all. 'I'm not a hat person anyway,' I told myself reluctantly.

Enter the year 2018. & with it the resurrection of the newsboy trend, & I've taken full advantage.

How it can make any look so polished, I'm not sure. IT JUST DOES.

Anti Trends | The Ones I Just Don't Understand

I cover a lot about the trends I LOVE, like velvet, off the shoulder, mules, DENIM, etc etc, but what about the things I'm not feeling so much? Because trust me, there's a few at the moment. So, I wanted to see which ones we agree upon & which ones might make me crazy:

Cold Shoulders In Winter
Don't get me wrong, a good cold shoulder can be pretty chic. But, WHAT IS THE POINT of them after maybe October? I've seen long sleeved cold shoulders, sweatshirts, even DENIM JACKETS. The point of jackets are to keep you warm!! Please, let's leave the open shoulders to the summertime.

Embroidery
Even I'm a little surprised at myself for this one since it's very 90s based, but I just can't get behind it! Sure, a cute little design on a sweatshirt is nice every once in awhile, but things seem to have gotten a bit out of control these days. Why is it necessary to throw three different flowers or other random designs on a single jacket? OR WORSE, pants? Why not just make it all over patterned? If you can pull it off, more power to you!

Cape Sleeves
Bell sleeves I can handle. I love a bell sleeve. But I don't really see the appeal of having a quasi-cape on your shoulders all through the day. How is that wearable? Doesn't it get annoying having your sleeve flapping around every ten seconds? Doesn't do it for me.

Platform Crocs
It was the shock heard round the world when Balenciaga debuted platform crocs down the runway. I'm sorry, but putting a couture name on it does not make it couture. Just like fetch never happened, neither will this. Please stop trying. For the love of everything.

What's on your anti-trend list?

As If: A '90s Revivial

Friday, July 15, 2016

The '90s is a very important decade to me, as it should be for everyone, in my opinion. It brought us some of the best music & shows, & OF COURSE the fashion.

That's what I'll be over here talking about for the rest of my life. Seriously. And lucky for us, some of the best '90s trends have been back for awhile now, & it looks like they might be here to stay? I mean, look how far denim has come. (oh, denim, my love)

LET IT BE KNOWN: I'm calling it now.

SLIP DRESSES
Although it seems like it should go underneath something, the slip dress is meant to be seen, & that it does. Kate Moss and Rachel Green are a pair of icons when it comes to the slip dress. (also with everything else, obviously) Look to them for inspo.

CHOKERS
This is not the first I've written on my favorite necklace trend & it definitely won't be the last. What makes them so special? I'm not sure anybody knows. All I know is they're here to stay.

DARK LIPS
As much as I love my bright lips, there's no denying that brown shades have the upper hand at the moment, and for good reason. There's so many different tones that it's pretty much universally complimentary. PLUS it goes with anything!

OVERALLS
If I'm being real, when overalls first really started gaining traction again a couple years back, I was a skeptic. The last time I had worn them Sister, Sister was still on the air and frankly, I was scared. Scared of the unknown. Could these glorified jumpsuits really make it in the 21st century? I had plenty of doubt. BUT it was quickly squashed when I actually put a pair on. & the rest was history.

VELVET DRESSES
When I think of the velvet dress I think of Topanga Lawrence. (hyphen Matthews, duh) I feel like she's the queen of the trend, rocking a plethora of velvet looks. Bring that into 2016 with a modern & chic feel, with a pair of heels or boots. I kind of need one of these ASAP, please!

How do you feel about the 90s revival?
