It's hard to believe that this is my sixth year of celebrating International Women's Day on this blog. In a way, the first year I wrote about it was also the first year I really considered myself a feminist. Sure, I'd always believed in equal rights, but I shied away from the feminist label. (even though that's literally the definition of feminism) 

A Letter To You On Women's Day

I contemplated what my annual women's post topic should cover this year. In fact, I nearly did a post on the lessons we've learned from women, then changed my mind at the last second. 

Maybe I'll save that for another time, or next women's day. But this year I wanted to write a little note to you, a love letter of sorts.

WHAT WE TACKLE, WE CONQUER | A NOTE ON WOMEN'S DAY

We’re going on year four of celebrating Women’s Day on WDAC. It’s something so important to me that I feel it needs its own dedication each year. (although the official day is tomorrow, it's never too early) Since starting my feminist journey, (is that a thing? let’s go with it) with each year I've become increasingly thankful and overwhelmed in the best way by the strength that we have as women, and the way we stick together. 

Who Run The World.

It's become a WDAC tradition of sorts to honor women's day each year.
& each year I only feel more inspired by the air that surrounds my world when I'm surrounded by women supporting each other, lifting each other up, especially in the blog world.
I think this day is so important to me because the bond we have as women is so important to me. It's lending an ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on, a space to laugh with. We're all on the same weird journey, navigating this thing called adulthood, filled with twists and turns at every corner. My heart can't help but ache for the women in the countries that cannot speak for themselves, or sometimes even think for themselves.
We have to speak up for them. We have to speak up for each other, & be a guiding light. Something beautiful happens when women shine their light. The world gets a bit brighter, more magical.

We Got You

{sometimes you have to just use a cool photo that doesn't necessarily go with the post. Blogging 101, duh}

I was all set to do my usual PLL post but when I sat down to write it... there was nothing. Not a lot has been happening the last few episodes and I just feel like it's not fun to write or read about right now. I'll probably cover next week since it is the spring finale (already??) but lemme know your feedback- do you even like the recaps? Should I continue it next season or let it fade?

ANYWAY, 

Yesterday was International Women's Day & it left me feeling extra inspired and with lots of love for the women in my life and around me. In recent years I've learned more than ever that you feel so much lighter & freer once you realize that we are not in competition with each other. Instead, we're right next to each other, every single one of us, around the world & that's kind of the coolest thing.

When I first became part of the blogging community it seemed scary. It was like the first day of high school, the tiny overwhelmed freshman among the sea of super cool seniors. But it quickly became clear that though there were the "big" and "small" blogs, we're all kind of on the same level. We're just out there doing our thing and we're supporting each other while doing it. 

It's kind of like that offline too, huh? Or at least it should be. So. Keep fighting & making noise & never apologizing. Know your worth. Be kind & brave. We got you.

Ladies celebrating ladies

Yesterday was International Women's Day, so obviously I had to take the time to celebrate all the rad ladies out there.

We are beautiful and we are more than the society that tells us we are not. We are more than the system that says we can't achieve all the things that men can.

There is a Leslie Knope and a Brooke Davis and a Lorelai Gilmore within each of us. Find it. Don't lose it.

I am constantly inspired by so many women who are the true definition of beautiful:

Brave.

Ambitious. 

Kind. 

Honest.

We are beautiful. Go out there and kill it.

P.S. While finding a photo of Aubrey Plaza I became aware of the fact that we're birthday twins. I just really needed to let you know that. #soulsisters
