I love Ariana Grande. Maybe it’s because we’re birthday twins (& I’ll tell anyone who will listen) but I’ve been obsessed for years & it’s not going anywhere. Her iconic hair is being copied everywhere from Instagram to the ~real life~ & I’m not mad about it. As amazing as the half up pony looks with her mermaid locks, short hair is no excuse not to rock it.

I know I'm about 500 years late on the space buns trend, but better later than never and now I can't get enough. My hair is finally long enough to do a good bun that I haven't been able to do in awhile. (& yet I'm considering chopping... stop me)

When I moved into the new place, I bought a little bulletin board from target, and I had been trying to figure out what to do with it. I had a few Polaroids & random things hanging from it, and then I decided what better thing to do than make a little inspiration board?
There are two main ways you can go about making this, the first being that you can literally just print/ cut out whatever you want. Magazine cut outs, pinterest things, WHATEVER YOU WANT.
It's your life, pick out things that inspire you, things you love, or that generally give you a warm & fuzzy feeling when you look at them. & then tape or pin them to your board & you're GOOD TO GO.
But if you wanna get a bit fancy, then you can handwrite it out. (or watercolor or do calligraphy or whatever your talent level allows for. Unfortunately I'm stuck in the plain handwriting stage) I got plain paper from hobby lobby and cut each page I wanted in half, for more of a poster feel. I cut some even smaller, depending on what was going on there.
I scoured my pinterest boards for things I wanted on there, and then I went for it, using a simple calligraphy marker and colored pencils, both things I already had. (but can be found for cheap) On a couple of them it took a couple tries, but WE GOT IT!
I've only added a few quotes for now, but will be doing more, don't worry.
You'll want to keep your inspo board somewhere you see it all the time. Mine is by my desk as a motivator.
Now that you know the super easy way to get inspired, GO DO IT!

Once it's styling time I'll heat up my flat iron and brush everything out, then I'll section my hair off, starting with the bottom.
Then I spray some heat protectant on (I use this Tresemme one) and start curling my hair AWAY from my face. TIP: Twist the iron slightly as you move down and stop when you get to the ends; you'll want to keep them straight.
Take the next layer down, spray the heat spray, and continue the process on your whole head. Once you've finished curling everything, you'll wanna finger comb all over to get that messy, loose look. For even more effect you can scrunch the waves up a little & sometimes I'll tease the roots.

| {It's either cheesy grin or super serious model face. I'm real good at this blogging thing.} |
RECAP:
1// Prep wet hair with sea salt spray and air or blow dry to natural texture
2// Section off hair starting with the bottom.
3// Curl away from face, leaving the ends straight
4// Finger comb & scrunch waves for messy look
5// Teasing optional!
AND that's it. Told you it was easy!
Let's talk hair. How do you do messy curls?

Lately I've been digging a little style I like to call the half bun.
It's easy- like super easy, not too "done," and perfect for us shorter maned gals. (Although it'll work on any length!)
This looks chic on straight or curly hair, but I like mine with some laid-back waves.
So first things first, I curl my hair with a flat iron (I don't even own a curling iron) and then I mess it up. Finger comb, scrunch, whatever it takes to look a little undone.
Next, just gather a section of hair from the top of your head and twist it up into a bun.
Even though your instinct will be to get the bun just perfect, the key again is to make it a little undone. Messy is the new black.
Get some bobby pins in there and voila.
See? Told you it was soooo easy. Even a caveman can do it. #throwback
Have you tried the half bun look? Tell me how you get it.
